Chair of Medical Materials and Implants (MMI)
Dear Visitors,
Dear Students,
we welcome you and invite you to inform yourself about the Chair of Medical Materials and Implants (MMI), our teaching and research profile.
Advancements in engineering, materials science and biology are exploited in a process where technical and biological components are combined to obtain living tissues/organs, ultimately produced by the patient’s own cells. MMI is following different strategies to combine a technical component, which provides structural stability, with a biological one to obtain living tissue/organs that recapitulate the mechanical and biological functions of the healthy equivalents. In research, the team deals with various manufacturing technologies and materials for medical applications with focus on biohybrid systems. Such biohybrid systems are also employed as 3D physiologically relevant models for in vitro basic research, drug screening and medical device testing. In teaching, MMI is significantly involved in the Master's program Medical Engineering and Assistance Systems at our school. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact the team personally.
