Winter School on the challenges of safety in snow sports: From Theory to field measurements

This winter semester, the Associate Professorship of Sport Equipment and Sport Materials was part of a very special event: together with 12 TUM students, we went to the winter school in the Slovenian winter sports resort of Kranjska Gora for ten days from 6 March to 16.

Winter school is an academic educational program that takes place during lecture breaks. This year's winter school focused on safety issues in winter sports and enabled students to deepen their knowledge of the safety of skis, snowboards, cross-country skis and other winter sports. The focus was particularly on the impact of different design solutions and protective equipment on safety.

The winter school had a strong international character. In addition to TUM, students from Verona, Padua, Cologne and Ljubljana also took part. The event was complemented by other highlights, such as the adjacent ISSS Congress (International Society of Snowsports Safety), including an appearance by the Slovenian president. Here, the students were able to get a taste of the conference atmosphere. Professor Senner also gave a keynote speech on "The Ski Binding Between Anachronism and Artificial Intelligence - Never Change a Running System?". Patrick Carqueville gave a lecture on "Investigation of Lateral Ski Boot Toe Lip Displacement and Twisting Moment in Skiing".
