Project Description

Function and service life of wet disk clutches is strongly influenced by the temperatures occurring in the clutch. Accordingly, precise knowledge of the thermal behavior of the clutch is of great importance for its design and construction. In addition to the temperatures occurring during engagement, the thermal behavior in the cooling phase and during engagement sequences is also important. For this purpose, based on an existing thermal calculation model, the new program version KUPSIM 4.0 was developed, which fully calculates the thermal budget of applications in the maritime/industrial sector as well as in automotive applications. Compared to previous program versions, the program version KUPSIM 4.0 focuses on the conditions of industrial clutches and brakes. Among other things, the dynamic pressure that forms in sealed couplings can now also be taken into account by KUPSIM. The formation of the dynamic pressure is validated by means of CFD simulations (see figure).

Furthermore, groove patterns with conveying effect and large groove cross sections can now also be considered. In practice, industrial clutches and braking systems are often dip-lubricated. KUPSIM 4.0 allows the thermal calculation of these systems. Furthermore, extensive new options for specifying permanent slip conditions have also been implemented.

Due to extensive changes in the program structure, there is now a completely restructured and optimized computational core, that promises an optimized calculation of the thermal budget with faster overall performance. With the help of a new user interface an intuitive parameterization of the thermal calculation is possible.
